Basis

Basis for utilities

Test what's possible when every home on your network is intelligent.

We run live trials with New Zealand's lines companies to prove what a distributed, circuit-level network actually looks like. DER orchestration, demand flexibility, fault-level signal: tested, measured, and handed back as evidence you can take to your next regulatory submission.

Four pilots already announced. The platform is open. The API is ready.

Live pilots

Real networks. Real homes. Real data.

Four NZ lines companies are already working with Basis to test what the next generation of network operations looks like. If your team wants to design the fifth, we're ready.

Pilot · Counties Power

DSO trial with Ara Ake

Coming soon

Exploring Distribution System Operator capabilities on a NZ network: real-time visibility, dispatchable flex, and network tariff co-design. Run in partnership with Ara Ake, New Zealand's future-energy innovation centre.

Pilot · PowerCo

Flex trial

In planning

Testing edge-dispatched flexibility across a sample of Basis-equipped homes on the PowerCo network. Measuring load shift, frequency support, and export shaping.

Pilot · The Lines Company

Flex trial

In planning

Evaluating Basis Boards as a primary source of network-edge telemetry and flex in remote / rural supply environments.

Pilot · Orion

Flex trial

In planning

Canterbury-focused pilot exploring DER orchestration and fault-level signal aggregation across a Basis-equipped customer cohort.

[ENGINEERING: confirm each pilot's public status before publishing. Some may need Comms approval from partner networks.]

What Basis unlocks at the network edge

Three capabilities legacy metering can't give you. All in the same device.

Edge telemetry at circuit level

Every Basis Board streams real-time consumption, generation, voltage, frequency, temperature and power quality, per circuit, not per home. A richer dataset than anything meter-based.

Dispatchable demand flexibility

Panels can shed or shift load on network signal: hot water, EV charging, battery dispatch. Measured response, audit-grade telemetry.

Fault-level early warning

Arc, earth-leakage, and voltage events detected before the customer calls. Aggregated, these become signals for feeder-level maintenance planning.

Open platform

We'd rather you build on Basis than build around it.

The four pilots above all started with a conversation and a hypothesis. What we're really offering is access: to a fleet, to an API, to a team that's been thinking about what comes next for a long time.

If you've got a network-level question, bring it. We'll probably want to test it.

You bring the network question.
We bring the homes.

Our networks team will scope a pilot, handle the legal, set up the data feeds, and work alongside yours. Most trials start at 50–200 homes and run 6–12 months.
